“The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.” Paul Coelho, The Alchemist
Why have coaching?
Women in many parts of the world now have more choices and opportunities than ever before. They find themselves breaking new ground, forging their reputation in traditionally masculine worlds, balancing the needs of families and older relatives, re-defining themselves as they grow older, moving on to new relationships, contributing to the community, becoming politicians and so the list goes on.
But there are so many choices, opportunities and conflicting media messages that sometimes it can be difficult to hear your own voice and desires. You may have lost your internal compass, question your abilities or not know where to start. That’s when partnering with a coach can make all the difference.
Coaching means having a unique relationship with someone who is completely on your side and doesn’t judge you; supporting and helping you to see things from a different perspective, and enabling you to focus more clearly on what you want.
With this new understanding and confidence, you are able to:
- be more focussed
- make purposeful choices
- create resourceful plans
- overcome obstacles
- stretch yourself
- deal with difficult emotions
- play to your strengths
- better respond to others
The coaching process
As your coach, I work alongside you in a creative and collaborative process of learning and action. It takes time to make lasting changes, and so I ask you to commit to a minimum of six sessions – although you may want longer, depending on what you want to achieve. Each session is 45 minutes to one hour, usually every two weeks, either face to face or over the phone.
First we really get to know what matters to you, what you want for yourself and what you value. Then we create goals which inspire you and build on your strengths, develop the strategies which are effective for you, and support you through a plan of action and review.
- Asking powerful questions
- Listening to what’s beneath the surface
- Exploring beliefs and emotions
- Trying different perspectives
- Constructive challenge
- Making decisions
- Taking action
- Celebrating success
Not only will you discover valuable insights about yourself which you can use in different parts of your life and career, but you will be stimulated, learn new skills and tools, try new things and even have fun.
